Jerett Brooks Still The Fastest Pro 2 In The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series

Chandler, AZ

The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) hosted Round 2 and the “Duel In The Desert” at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona. The main event showcased the world’s best short course off-road drivers racing the top tier Pro 2 division. Jerett Brooks, out of San Diego, California, in the #77 Rigid Industries truck was determined to capture another race victory, to repeat his Round 1 win. Jerett was on his way to a checkered podium when contact was made with lapped traffic that obstructing the main race line. With Brooks’ race win cut off, Jerett still managed to pick up 5 points as the top qualifier and recorded the fastest speeds on the track with a blazing quick 95.752 Miles Per Hour.

“This year the goal is to win and give it our all for every race,” Brooks stated. “It was a bum deal. We had the fastest truck all weekend. The Rigid Industries Pro 2 was working perfectly, and I qualified P1. Everything was lined up for the win and as I am battling for the lead and I made contact with a lapper running the main line. It was a good time running up front, but we had some unfortunate luck!”

Brooks unloaded the #77 off the trailer and went out for the first Practice Session 1, but as luck would have it, the rear gear exploded right as he pulled onto the track. Jerett was fastest in Practice Session 2 with a best lap of 38.600 seconds. In the third and final Practice Session 3, Brooks was second fastest behind Bradley Morris and .261 off the pace.

For the qualifying session, the #77 was wound up even tighter delivering the quickest lap time of 38.149 seconds at 94.367 Miles Per Hour putting Jerett on the pole. Brooks explained what it takes to be the top qualifier and the fastest in the Pro 2 class. “The off-road short course at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park is known to be super tricky for racers. The dirt contains a mixed clay compound that can make for a slick track if over watered, but at the same time can also dry out fast. It is a real struggle to find traction. There is a lot of work going down here, but that is what it takes. We are always chasing set up. No matter how good you are, the track is always changing, and we never know what the conditions and prep well be like come race time. Vehicle setup has to be flexible enough to handle most all conditions, and the driver will need to adapt as well. We had the quick setup and now we are on top!”

The teams continued effort paid off, as Brooks earned five valuable points as the top qualifier. Unfortunately, those would be the only points Jerett was able to take home on this race weekend.

Jerett continued, “I am not here to get lucky podiums. I want to be there for the whole race! I want to win every time we are out on the track and dominate for a championship. It is time to keep our heads down and be consistent. Until Baja!”
