Ensenada, Baja California Mexico
Short Course Racing on the beach only comes once a year for the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS), and the 2019 Battle South of the Border hosted at Estero Beach & Resort in Ensenada, Mexico did not disappoint. Jerett Brooks, driver of the #77 Rigid Industries Pro 2, verified he is a star of the sport by leading & winning a hugely thrilling race against the legendary champion [and Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame Inductee] Rob MacCachren. Brooks would also round out his weekend with a 3rd place podium finish in Round 4 to back up the Round 3 race win.
It is always exciting when the short course series heads down south of the border into Mexico, both for the racers as well as the local off-road fans (or super off-road fanatics). The locals live, eat, sleep everything off-road, and racers like Jerett Brooks can feel the passion.
“I am super pumped to see all our amigos down south! It is always a blast to go racing and put on a show,” Brooks shared. “This track is tough and has a lot of flat turns with huge ruts! We had a great day of practice. I am ready to get this fiesta started and go racing!”
When it comes time to race, Brooks is all business and very pragmatic about it. “We have a game plan and processes to make sure we achieve our goals,” Jerett stated. “We have a professional crew and are aligned with the best partners in the business. Rigid Industries, Bilstein, General Tire, KMC Wheels, FK Rod Ends, Black Rhino Performance, FiberwerX, Optima Batteries, Kroyer Racing Engines, CBR Performance, Fortin Racing, Caspers Concrete, Howe Performance, Oakley, Maxima Racing Oils & Synergy Electric provide a competitive package that gives me confidence to go out and aim to win every time.”
The confidence game paid off for Brooks in Round 3 big time! Jerett took on the challenge and made moves to the front early on. Fierce competition was charging for it behind, but Jerett ran it down to the finish for the race win against the sports best. “It was a legendary race today and I really had to work for it! I had Rob Mac, the legend, on my heels for 12 laps. It came down to the last lap as we caught a (Pro 2 M) “410” motor truck which mixed up our battle. I was able to find the line on the outside which kept me in the lead to the checkered flag! Thank you to my team; Jon Hoffman, Nick Tennboun, and Luis Dominguez for giving me a fast truck.”
Brooks thrilling Round 3 victory over off-road champion, Rob MacCachren was one that no one will soon forget. Jerett and his Rigid Industries short course racing team were able to continue their efforts in Round 4 and achieved another 3rd place podium finish to round out the weekend.
The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series next event is scheduled for June 29 at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland Missouri. However, recent severe weather has damaged the facility infrastructure, destroying the off-road track’s grandstands, so it is unknown if the LOORRS Series Officials are making arrangements to reschedule.
