Each race on our circuit represents a “home track” for at least one or two drivers. When you show up to Glen Helen in San Bernardino, it’s the closest race track to more drivers in the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series than any other track we compete at. So it’s safe to say that everyone is fast at Glen Helen. This would prove to be the case yet again for rounds 9 & 10 this past weekend. Now sitting in 4th in the standings, Jerett Brooks would need to put his head down and drive the #77 faster and harder than the next guy in order to make up some ground in the points chase.

After qualifying 2nd for round 9, far and away Jerett’s best qualifying run of the season gaining 4 extra championship points, Jerett felt confident in his truck and his ability to perform on Friday night. At the green flag, Jerett would get a great start and move into 3rd place from 4th through the first few turns. And then in turn 4, still on lap one, heavy contact to the left rear from another driver would result in Jerett losing his rear brakes. The dream scenario of having a fast truck and running up front turned into a nightmare for Jerett, as he’d pull into the hot-pits momentarily. It can happen that fast. Jerett would burn laps towards the back of the pack to earn as many points as possible. 34 in this case, as he would finish in 9th place in what was probably the craziest Pro 2 races of the entire season.

For Round 10 on Saturday night, Jerett started on the inside of row 3. A far less eventful race, Jerett was able to move up to 4th by lap 2, 3rd by lap 3. A hard charging Brian Deegan would work his way through the pack and got by Jerett for 3rd. Jerett was able to maintain his position and climb back into a podium spot a handful of laps later and would finish in 3rd behind Brian Deegan and RJ Anderson.

With championship leader Rob MacCachren paying the price from a pair of rare DNFs at Glen Helen, Jerett was able to gain 13 points in the standings on MacCachren. Brooks still sits in 4th but only 9 points separate Jerett from closing out the 2019 season in 3rd place. The season finale will take place next month in Chandler, AZ at the Wild Horse Motorsports Park.
