Wheatland, MO
The 2020 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) season finally hit full swing, with a triple-header race weekend in Wheatland, Missouri, at Lucas Oil Speedway. Pro 2 Champion Jerett Brooks had racked up two wins during Rounds 1 & 2 and was confidently ready to unveil the all-new Pro 2 build he and his team had been working on for over six months. Brooks hauled out to the Midwest with the #77 K&N Filters / Bilstein / General Tire truck wearing a bright fire red body.
Jerett’s new ride showed impressive speed all weekend long, picking up a win in Round 4, and a 4th place finish in Round 3. Brooks put up a solid performance in Wheatland and led the most race laps of all the Pro 2 Division. “We got it done!” exclaimed Jerett. “P1 in our brand new truck is an unreal feeling!”
The #77 K&N Filters Pro 2 truck was specifically built around the 410 Motor Package, so in comparison to Jerett’s championship-winning Pro 2, it is an entirely different animal. “I am pumped on this new truck,” Brooks explained. “We built it all in house and busted our ass for many months on it. The attention to detail is insane with many one-off parts. I always want to try and go faster and you have to think outside of the box to be able to do that.” I want to give a big thank you to Tanner and Nick and everyone else that supports this team!”
Speed was the goal and speed is what Jerett showed in the trucks race weekend debut. Right out of the box, the #77 qualified at the top of the field with the fastest lap time. “This truck is hooked up!” Brooks shared. “Every session I am getting more comfortable in this truck, it’s way different than anything else I’ve driven.” In Round 3, Jerett started up front and led the first five laps and finished in 4th place. Brooks pitted under caution for a tire change. With only two laps to go, the #77 put on a rally to regain position and ended up in the Top 5.
Jerett held it down in Round 4 and drove it in for a gratifying 1st place victory. In a podium interview, Brooks shared. “This is a ground-up build and we did not copy anything. I had a lot of people tell me that this truck would not win. This pretty much proves all those guys wrong as we sit here on top of the box!”
In Round 5, Jerett would again break loose from the field to lead most of the race. On Lap 1, Doug Mittag dived into the first turn to nose ahead, but by Turn 2, Brooks had pushed forward and secured the position. The #77 would be unchallenged through the Competition Caution. On Lap 6, Brooks still had it on lock and maintained the lead two to three car lengths ahead of Mittag. On Lap 8, the #77 K&N Filters truck got a little unsettled pushing through the inside stretch whooped out rhythm section. Mittag raced through diving to the inside and put a door on Brooks to steal the lead position. Not long after, the truck lost power and Jerett had to settle for a 10th place finish.
“Unfortunately, I had a mechanical gremlin today that took us out of the race. We are going to keep our heads up and keep charging! Now we are off to Crandon for the biggest race of the year!” Brooks declared.
Championship Off Road will host 51st Annual Crandon World Championship on Labor Day Weekend, September 4 – 6, at Crandon International Raceway in Crandon, Wisconsin. The Crandon World Cup is the biggest most prestigious event in all of Short Course Racing and Brooks ready to bring #77 to the winner’s circle.
